Learning how to draw vector images in Flash can become very important in the long run. Basically you could draw on paper first, scan it in, trace, colour and then you have your vector charater. This tutorial is about 45 minutes but after you will feel confident drawing your own charaters.
Finished making “my blob” in about 30 minutes the tutorial i used wasn’t clear on a few of the important details to create the perfect blob. After you do this tutorial you will begin to understand that Flash isn’t as complex as you may think. It’s all about the art of illusion Flash designers could be described as digital illusionists.

Learn how to take a simple circle - distort the points and create a simple animation.
In four easy steps anyone can achieve this:
- Step 1 - Set up the properties panel - set the frame rate to 31, draw a circle in frame 1 and give it a colour.
- Step 2 - Click on frame 15 on the timeline and press f5, this will add new frames between frame 1 & 15 to give you some room to play with. Select the last frame on this timeline, and convert to a keyframe by pressing f6.
- Step 3 - Select the last frame in the timeline as above. In the toolbar choose the sub-selection tool. Distort the circle.
- Step 4 - Now, for the tween. On the timeline, right click anywhere between frame 1 & 15, select shape tween. Hit ctrl+ enter, and watch your shape move!
Been reading a few Flash CS3 ebooks to see if i can learn this cool software in a week. So far its not as hard as other people make it seem, i know Photoshop and Illustrator already so the basic tools are pretty much similar. I’ll be posting all the swf files so you can see how i started off until I’m making games, websites, banners, short movies and anything else you can think of.
I started of with a basic button tutorial from here and it tool about 15 minutes and its pretty simple. Get the basics down and all the fanciness will follow.
